Irrational thinking
Irrationality is cognition, thinking, talking or acting without inclusion of rationality. In other words, it described as an action or opinion given through inadequate use ofreason, emotional distress, or cognitive deficiency. For example for describe thinking and actions that are, or appear to be, less useful, or more illogical than other more rational alternatives.
A lotof us suffer from irrational thinking which can affect our lives in a dramatic way. It can separate the successful people in life from the unsuccessful ones, it can mean the difference between lovingsomeone and hating someone, it can be the difference between peace and war. All wars are caused by irrational thinking.
To describe a belief as irrational is to say that:
* It distorts reality(It is a misinterpretation of what is happening).
* It involves some illogical ways of evaluating yourself, others, and the world around you: catastrophizing, demanding and people-rating.
* Itblocks you from achieving your goals.
* It creates extreme emotions that persist, and which distress and immobilize.
* It leads to behaviors that harm yourself, others, and your life ingeneral.
These irrational thoughts then are thoughts that come from emotion generally negative emotion rather than logic. And in a lot of cases this means that they aren't congruent with the real world.They're faulty thoughts and as such they stop us from going about our daily business.
* Black and white thinking:
People often come to see the world in black and white terms; either they are atotal success or failure. Other people are either friends or enemies. The problem is that one small mistake can make us feel a total failure. For example, they say one wrong thing so then assume they havemessed up a relationship with someone.
* Filtering:
Seeing all that is wrong with oneself or the world, while ignoring any positives.
* Overgeneralization:
