Joaquín Torres García:

Joaquin borns in Montevideo on the twenty-eighth of July 1874. He is a very famous painter who makes wonderful works of art. His wife is Manolita Piña, his daughters areOlympia and Iphigenia and his sons are Augusto and Horace. Torres García's parents are María García Pérez and Joaquín Torres Fradera
Torres García moves to Barcelona in 1891 where he goes to paintinglessons with Joseph Vinardell. He also studies at the “Escuela official de belles arts de Barcelona”, Baixas Academy and “Circle Artistic de Saint Luck”. In Barcelona he also works with Antonio Gaudiand participates of the noucentist movement. In 1904 he makes an exhibition in the “Circle Artistic de Sent Luc” with Iu Pascual. In the same year he starts writing about art with an article in themagazine Universitat catalana. In 1910 paints scenes about Uruguay in Brussels. In 1913 he publishes Notes sobre art, his first book. In 1917 he shows some of his art in the Dalmau gallery with RafaelSala. In 1921 he moves to New York.

In 1921 he travels to New York. After he has problems to adapt and without much success because of don't knowing the language he returns to Europe in 1922. In 1924he installed in a village of the blue coast and in 1926 he moves to Paris. According to Torres García his final training definitely happens in Paris.
In 1932 he comes back to Spain, were he livesfor 2 years. In 1934 Torres García returns to Montevideo with his wife Manuolita Piña and their 4 children. At the beginning he rents a house in Isla de Flores street number 1715.
