THE CENTRIFUGE.

A centrifuge or centrifuge is a machine that puts in a sample rotation to separate by centrifugal force components or stages (usually a solid and a liquid), depending on itsdensity. There are different types of these, usually for specific purposes.

A typical application is to accelerate the sedimentation process, dividing
the plasma and serum in a laboratory process. Itis also used to determine blood type using a capillary sampling. In this case the machine used is called microcentrifuge . It is widely used in laboratories for quality control in factories thatproduce juices from citrus to control the level of fine pulp of these, separating the pulp from the juice squeezed fine.

Another application of centrifuges is the production of olive oil . It olivescrushed and beaten once introduced into a horizontal centrifuge which separates the oil is lighter fraction of the other components of the olive, water, bone, flesh etc. An important application is theseparation of uranium 235 from uranium 238 . The centrifuges used instruments called butyrometers to measure the degree of fat or cream in milk, there are different types of butyrometer cream, butter,etc.

Spinning is a sedimentation accelerated since the acceleration of gravity is replaced by the centrifugal acceleration , ω 2 r, where is the angular velocity of rotation of the centrifugeand r is is the distance to the axis of the centrifuge. Since the angular velocity of rotation can be thousands of revolutions per minute, accelerations much greater than gravity.

The spin, inaddition to being faster than sedimentation, allows separate components that could not be separated merely settling for example separating uranium 235 from uranium 238 .
