RESUMEN Con el propósito de caracterizar la disciplina de la Ingeniería de Sistemas y establecer cuáles son los elementos que conforman los perfiles de los Ingenieros de sistemas en Colombia se desarrolló un estudio teniendo como fundamento las publicaciones, resultado del trabajo de estudios formales, periódicos y de reconocidoprestigio de instituciones, organizaciones, comités y asociaciones en 3 contextos: regional, nacional e Internacional. La falta de unicidad en la definición de la ingeniería de Sistemas y los avances a nivel de la Ingeniería, Ciencia y Tecnología han generado la necesidad de desarrollar un estado del arte basada en la revisión documental de estudios que están relacionados directamente con ladisciplina de la Ingeniería de sistemas o con áreas afines que fundamentan la formación de los profesionales identificando sus orígenes , evolución, tendencias actuales y desafíos permitiendo redefinir las características que deben conformar a un profesional en el área de Ingeniería de Sistemas. Para la definición de la Ingeniería de Sistemas el estudio se categorizó en (1.) Definición: declaración de laspropiedades, equivalencia y significado de la Ingeniería de Sistemas (2.) Contexto: circunstancias específicas de lugar y tiempo (3.) Antecedentes. Para los perfiles del Ingeniero de Sistemas en Colombia el estudio se categorizó en: (1.) Ingeniero de Sistemas en Colombia (2.) Responsabilidades (3.) Parámetros para establecer un perfil. Finalmente se concluye con el estado actual de la profesión,algunas reflexiones y se formulan algunas tendencias. PALABRAS CLAVE: Ingeniería de Sistemas, Contexto, Perfil.
