Hoy, en el mundo global del siglo xxi, el discurso del
pensamiento único se ha caracterizado por realzar
al empirismo y sustituir a la reflexión filosófica y
política por un pensamientopragmático, conser-
vador y acrítico. La tarea de recuperar entonces
el pensamiento crítico social latinoamericano es
actualmente una cuestión impostergable de las
ciencias sociales enAmérica Latina. En este sentido,
el presente artículo tiene por objeto mostrar la gran
importancia y contribución al pensamiento crítico
de dos de los más importantes y originales pensa-dores latinoamericanos: José Martí y Luis Villoro.
Los significativos aportes del pensamiento de uno y
otro se evidencian, justamente, por sus reflexiones
sobre la identidad, la cultura, elEstado y la libera-
ción en América Latina. Dichas reflexiones resultan
de una importancia central y actual en la era de la
globalización cultural de las identidades nacionales
en elsistema mundial.

discourse of the one and only thought has been
characterized by emphasizing empiricism and subs-
tituting philosophical and political reflection by apragmatic thought, conservative and non critical.
The task of recuperating the critical social Latin
American thought is today a matter that does not
admit delay for the social sciences inLatin America.
