Causas de abandono de lactancia materna en un
hospital de tercer nivel

Resumen
El presente estudio es de tipo observacional, prospectivo,
descriptivo, transversal y abierto con fuentes de información directa.Se incluyeron a todos los pacientes de 0 a 6 meses de edad que
acudieron a la consulta de Urgencias. Se excluyeron a los pacientes
que nunca recibieron leche materna y a los mayores de 6 meses de
edad. Para la recolección de datos se empleó una cédula de llenado,
cuyas variables eran la edad, el sexo, el tipo de alimentación
efectuada desde el nacimiento, y si el paciente no era alimentadoal
seno materno se determinaba la causa y se preguntaba si la madre
era trabajadora y si había recibido información de la lactancia
materna.
Los datos obtenidos fueron comparados entre sí y analizados con el
método estadístico Chi cuadrada (c2).
Se incluyeron 681 pacientes, de los cuales 352 (51.7 %) fueron
alimentados con leche materna y 329 (48.3%) con fórmulas
industriales.
De los 329pacientes se mencionó como las principales causas de
abandono de la lactancia materna la poca producción de leche y
ser hijo de madre trabajadora, con una tasa estadísticamente no
significativa p-0.05.
Las otras causas mencionadas fueron:
• Madre e hijo enfermo.
• El paciente no queda satisfecho.
• Mastitis.
• Rechazo al seno materno.
• Embarazo gemelar.
• Pezón plano.
Todas éstasmostraron una tasa estadísticamente significativa de
p + 0.05.
Se concluye que ser hijo de madre trabajadora o tener poca
producción de leche no justifica abandonar la lactancia al seno
materno.
En México existe un marco legal que protege a la madre
trabajadora.

Abstract
The present study is observational, prospective, descriptive, open
and transverse type and it has sources of directinformation.
They were included all patients from 0 to 6 months age old that you
went to the consultation of Urgencies Pediatric of Hospital Ignacio
Zaragoza.
The were the patients that didn’t receive maternal milk and to those
bigger than 6 months of age.
For the gathering of data a questionnaire was used that it included
age, sex, the feeding type from the birth and if the patient was fed
withmaternal milk, the cause was determined and he/she wondered
if the mother was hard-working and if she had received information.
The obtained data were compared to each other and analyzed with
the statistical method Chi square.
681 patients were included, of which 352 were fed with maternal
milk and 329 were fed with industrialized milk. Of the 329 patients
it was mentioned as the maincauses of abandonment.
To the little production of milk and being son of hard-working
mother, with a non significant rate of p-0.05.
The other mentioned causes were:
• Sick mother and sick son.
• The patient is not satisfied.
• Mastitis.
• An reject to the maternal milk.
• Embarrass gemelar.
• Plane nipple.
This causes showed a rate statistically significant p + 0.05.
Concluding that to behard-working mother’s son or to have little
production of maternal milk, doesn’t justify abandoning the nursing.
In Mexico, a legal mark that protects the hard-working mother
exists.
