Euthanasia



Euthanasia is the act of killing a person or animal that is in grave pain. Its name is from the Greek “good dead”. This can be done in many ways but the most popular ones areby injecting a lethal drug into the patient, taking the patients life in a few minutes. This act is only legal on animals most of the time and a doctor that practices this can be accused of murder butI think it is cruel to let a person live in that state. Euthanasia should be legalized either if the patient is suffering great pain and he agrees to it or if the patient’s sickness causes totalimmobilization in which the patient cannot talk, move, or nod.

There are three types of euthanasia: voluntary, non-voluntary and involuntary. Voluntary euthanasia is legal in Belgium, Luxembourg,Netherlands, Switzerland, Oregon, Washington and Montana and is only used if the patient agrees to it. Non-voluntary euthanasia is illegal worldwide and is considered murder in this case it’s when thepatient can’t talk like performing euthanasia on a baby. Involuntary euthanasia is considered murder in most places and it is done when a patient does not agree to get euthanasia for a reason or other.The two modern ways to do this procedure are passive euthanasia and active euthanasia. Passive euthanasia is to not give the necessary medicines or treatment to the patient such asantibiotics, chemotherapy, etc. Active Euthanasia is the lethal medicine injection mentioned earlier.

Euthanasia was first practiced in ancient Greece and Rome by using a poisonous plant such as thehemlock. This was supported by Socrates (Greek), his student Plato (Greek) and Seneca the elder (Roman). Hippocrates (Greek) and Judeo-Christians frowned upon this act. A less advanced way these peoplepracticed euthanasia was by suffocating; sending the patient to sleep outside or, when it is caused by an injury, they let the patient bleed until death.
