The effect induced by the angle of a pipette in the size of a drop of water.

Research question

How the angle in which the pipette is placed, will affect the size and mas of 30 drops of water?Variables

Dependent variable
The dependent variable in this experiment will be the weight of 30 drops of water; this means that we will measure the mass of the drops with an electric balance(±0.01).

Independent variable
The independent variable will be the angle in which the plastic pipette will be: 0o, 45o and 90o.

Controlled variables
The liquid that will be used in all trialswill be water.
The temperature of the water will be room temperature.
The electric balance will be the same with an error of ±0.01.
The pressured used has to be the same, will be just a normalpressure, enough to make a drop come out of the pipette.

Materials

* Plastic pipette
* Water
* Electric balance
* Beaker
* Protractor
* Electric Thermometer

The plasticpipette used along the experiment and the different trials has to be the same. In order to measure the mass of the drop of water we will be using an electric balance, which has an uncertainty of ±0.01.After every measurement you have to make sure that the beaker is cleaned and dried so that it will have always the same measurement and this will help the results to be more accurate. To measure theangle of 45o you will need the protractor.

Procedure

Take the plastic pipette that you will be using for this experiment.
Use a beaker to put the water and measure its temperature, make sureit room temperature.
Then you will need to fill the pipette with the water, which you have in the beaker.
After that you will need to take the electric balance, put on top the empty beaker and recordits mass.
Put it below where you will be with the pipette, so that the drops of water will fall on the beaker, that will be on top of the balance, in order to collect the mass of the drops.
