Main Levels Of Language Description
Scope and main units of analysis.
I – Introduction
The language description could beexplained into different ways, I’m going to explain the starting with words which more than one word can make phrases, which is the second point to explain. Words are indispensable units with meaningitself; a group of word can make sentences, phrases, etc. And phrases are groups of words which together make sense and include a subject and a predicator (you can find more than one subject and morethan one predicator).
II – Main Ideas
Like I said before I’m going to start with the words.
There are three facts that we can find in words, which are:·Meaning; it’s the word it self what is it expressing. EX: Car When you see it, you know what it is, because you know the meaning.
·Form; make reference to what type of word it is. EX: Car is anoun.
·Function; it is what the word is in a sentence, a phrase … EX: My car is red; Car, in that sentence acts like a head.
The classification of words is:
·Nouns: Are words thatcan act as head of noun phrases; they can change if there are suffixes or prefixes with them. EX: Brother – Brotherhood. They also have; number, case; and can be concrete or abstract, proper orcommon, etc.
·Verbs: Their function is as head of verb phrases, and they express actions, states, activities, etc.
·Adjectives: Acts like a head in a adjective phrase. They usually goeswith nouns to make the noun specific. EX: Red car. Adjectives can be found in different forms, that are superlative, comparative, between others.
·Adverbs: They are the head in a adverbphrase. They are like nouns but they are used to explain or specify something. EX: The red car runs fast.
·Determiners: They are articles, pronouns… They can be head of a noun phrase....
