EL PRINCIPIO DE ACCION MINIMA EN
EL CENTENARIO DEL QUANTUM

RESUMEN

ABSTRACT

Se hace un recuento histórico
del Principio de Acción Mínima, y
se plantea su importancia metodológica: las ecuaciones básicas de la
Mecánica Clásica se pueden derivar
de la conjunción del Principio ckAcción Mínima con el Principio de
Relatividad de Galileo y las hipótesis
de homogeneidnd e isotropz'a del
espacio y la homogeneidad del
tiempo. En la electrodinámica
clásica, la situación es análoga: se
puede construir la acción teniendo en
cuenta ahora el Principio .de
Relatividad de Einstein. Mediante la
solución de las ecuaciones de EulerLagrange se puederz encontrar las
ecuaciones delmovimiento de las
cargas en campos dados (fuerza ck
Lorentz) • y las primeras dos
ecuaciones de Maxwell. También, a
partir dé las fuentes del campo
(cargas y corrientes), se obtiene el
segundo par de ecuaciones de
Maxwell.

A brief historical review of the
Principle of Least Action is given,
and its methodological importance is
emphasized: the basic equations of
Classical Mechanicscan be derived
from the conjunction of the Principle
Least Action with the Galilean
Principle of Relativity and the
hypothesis of homogeneity ond
isotropy of space and the
homogeneity of time. In classical
electrodinamics, the situation is
similar: one can build the action
keeping now in mind the Einstein's
Principle of Relativity. By means of
the solution of the Euler-Lagrangeequations one obtain the equations of
motion of charges in given fields
(Lorentz force) and the first pair of
Maxwell equations. Also, starting
from the sources of the field (charges
and currents), the second pair of
Maxwell equations is obtained.

En el caso de la Relatividad
General, lastrayectorias de una
partícula libre están dadar por las
geodésicas en el espacio-tiempo. Las
ecuaciones de Einstein, resultan ck
extremar la acción. Tras un breve
recuento histórico a partir de la
introducción del quantum de acción
en la fi'sica, se plantea la ecuación de
Schfficlinger, que puede derivarse
tambien de un principio variacional,
y el Principio de Heisenberg. Resulta
especialmenteinteresante el papel ck
la acción clásica en la formulación de
la mecánica cuántica mediante las
integrales de trayectoria de Feynman.
En ésta, la trayectoria clásica en el
movimiento de un sistema entre dos
configuraciones, corresponde al
límite en que se hace tender a cero
constante de Planck. En la
electrodinámica cuántica, se requiere
igualmente de una Lagrangiana como
punto departida, conjuntamente con
las propie•fides de simetría espaciotemporal, la invarianza de calibración
y la invarianza CPT. Finalmente, se
hace referencia a la teoría electrodébil
y se hace referencia a la
cromodinámica cuántica.

In the case of the General
Relativity, the trajectories of a free
particle are given by the geodesic
lines in space-tinze. The Einstein
equations are alsoobtained by
finding the extreme of some action.
A brief historical review of quantum
theory is given, starting from the
introduction of the quantum of
action in physics, to the Schródinger
equation, which can be obtained
from a variational principle, and the
Heisenberg üncertainty • Principle.
Interesting is the role of the classical
action itz the fornzulation of quantum
mechanics bymeans of the Feynnzan
path integrals. In it, the classical
trajectory in the nzotion of a system
between two configurations, it
corresponds the limit in which the
Planck constant tends to zero. ln
quantum electrodinamics, it is
required also to start from a
Lagrangian together with ihe
properties of space-time simmetry,
the gauge invariance cuzd the CPT
