Motilidad intestinal
GASTROINTESTINAL
Motilidad I: Características
• Capa muscular circular (interna) y longitudinal (externa).
•Despolarizaciones espontáneas o como respuesta a un
estímulo nerviosos u hormonales.
• Contracciones fásicas y tónicas.
• Despolarizaciones oscilatorias de “onda lenta” y
despolarizaciones rápidas “en espiga”
(en distintas regiones, estímulos y frecuencia).
• Esfínteres (válvulas unidireccionales) = contracción tónica.
2
Motilidad II: Control Nervioso

Reflex
Action
Mediated by
Swallowing
Touch receptors in pharynx to swallowing center of the
Contraction of pharynx and upper esophagus, inhibition of medulla; back to pharynx and upper esophagus through
respiration
cranial nerves, and to the rest of the esophagus through
vagal nerves
Reflexiverelaxation of
stomach and duodenum
Relaxes the fundus and body of stomach when food, water,
or gas is present. Also occurs in duodenum when bolus
enters.
Vomiting
Irritation of pharynx, esophagus, stomach, or intestines,
Expulsion of upper intestinal and gastric contents by reverse via vagal and sympathetic afferents to vomiting center;
peristalsis
or stimulation of chemoreceptor triggerzone (in medulla
near area postrema) to vomiting center
Vagal fiber release of VIP
Peristalsis
Contraction behind bolus, relaxation ahead of bolus
Mechanoreceptor and hormone action on enteric nerves
Gastrocolic
Mass movements in colon after meal
PNS and hormones (CCK, gastrin)
Gastroileal
Increased segmentation in ileum in response to gastric
emptying
PNS and hormones(CCK, gastrin)
Ileogastric
Chyme in the ileum decreases gastric emptying
Enteric and autonomic nerves
If one area of SI is overdistended (e.g., by bacterial
infection) the rest of the SI will relax, causing cessation of
motility
Enteric and autonomic nerves
Distension of one area of colon will relax other areas
Enteric and sympathetic nerves
Feces entering the rectumwill cause peristalsis and relax
the internal anal sphincter
Both local (enteric nerves) and PNS
Enteroenteric
(Intestinointestinal)
Colonocolonic
Rectosphincteric
(Defecation Reflex)
These reflexes do not act in an all-or-nothing manner; many act at the same time to create efficient movement of the chyme.
VIP, vasoactive intestinal peptide; PNS, parasympathetic nervous system; CCK,cholecystokinin; SI, small intestine.
