1. Kathy narrates the story with hindsight because she is, at the time she narrates, 31 years old. and she is remembering whathappened to her during her childhood in hailsham, a “special” bording school she attended. all the novel is a flashback, in which she relates her memories of Hailsham, and when she gets to the age of18, of the cottages. Along the novel she makes two different journeys: a literal and a methaphorical one. as regards the literal journey it is because she travels around the country. but themethaphorical journey refers to the fact that the story is a story of introspection because she looks inwards in order to tell it.
2. the addressee of kathy’s narration is a fellow carer, a friend of her. Iam able to know this because when she narrates she take many things for granted, and that is why, readers are kept in the dark of the real meaning of many of the things named by Kathy.
