History:
The Romans dedicated this day to Janus, the god of gates, doors, and beginnings. After Julius Caesar reformed thecalendar in 46 BC and was subsequently murdered, the Roman Senate voted to deify him on the 1st January 42 BC [1] in honor of his life and his institution of the new rationalized calendar.[2] Themonth originally owes its name to the deity Janus, who had two faces, one looking forward and the other looking backward. This suggests that New Year's celebrations are founded on pagan traditions.CANADA:
In Canada, New Year traditions and celebrations vary from region to region. Generally, New Year's Eve is a social holiday. In big cities and tourist destinations such as Toronto, Niagara Falls,and Montreal, there are big celebrations and fireworks.
LATIN AMERICA:
Latin Americans celebrate New Year's Eve, Vispera de Año Nuevo in Spanish, by downing a grape with each of the twelve chimes ofthe bell during the midnight countdown, while making a wish with each one. Families decorate homes and parties in many colors and also use a lot of old traditions.
