The world around 1600.
Empires: Rome, Sacro-Roman Empire, Spain, France, Portugal, England.
Charles V (Carlos V) – The Emperor of the Sacro-Roman Empire. Although he is the King of Spain, he alsorules over other areas.
These Empires, some of them vast and others, as is the case with Portugal, are relatively small but have a huge influence.
Most of these Empires are very weak, they know theyare weak. When you're only 2 million (Portugal), then you have to try new ways to dominate, to gain power, to assert influence.
Kingdoms: the many loyalties.
These united Kingdoms don't obey thesame laws, speak the same language, or share the same traditions. These kingdoms are fighting
Within Spain, the Kingdom of Netherlands are fighting against Spain, the Kingdom of Portugal is fightingagainst Spain. Cataluga(sp), Flanders, Sicilia (sp)
Kingdoms: Mexico and Lima for example
Markets: commercial routes, explorations.
Commercial routes: those who can profit from these, are able tosurvive during the 17th century
Gods: Catholic State, Reformation, Infidels, Religious Orders
Regardless of what God or existence, God is very important and is essential. There's a God that isinseparable from the idea of a State.
God is very important because it is part of the state. Sovereignty*.
Spain is at the avant-garde fighting against Protestantism. Catholic Kingdom
Conquest ofChristianity across the world: Jesuits, Justinian[s], etc. have their own agendas.
Priests hold power at the local level. The ones that are learning the language to rule these people.
God is not asuperstractural Marxist“wishy washy stuff” that acts as a justification, no, it was important.
