REICHE (CIP 388611.22) VARIEDAD DE PAPA PRECOZ, RESISTENTE A VIRUS, TOLERANTE AL CALOR Y DE BUENA CALIDAD INDUSTRIAL.

RESUMEN
En la costaperuana las temperaturas altas entre los meses de Diciembre a Febrero limitan la producción de papa. Asimismo, los virus de la papa (PLRV, PVY y PVX) causan la degeneración del cultivo. Los tubérculo-semilla infectados transmitirán los virus de una generación a otra, reduciendo el rendimiento. Por esta razón es indispensable mejorar el cultivo por tolerancia a calor y por resistencia a los tresprincipales virus. En un diseño genético línea por probador, se usó como líneas 12 cultivares resistentes al PLRV y como probadores 5 clones inmunes al PVY y PVX y tolerantes a calor. Se obtuvieron 60 familias de progenies que fueron evaluadas en 2 localidades, Lima y Tacna durante el verano de 1991. El propósito fue identificar progenies con resistencia a virus, características agronómicasdeseables y altos rendimientos. Entre las progenies se identificó el clon C91.612 (No. CIP 388611.22), proveniente del cruce entre Mex.32 x (XY – 9) como sobresaliente. Una serie de evaluaciones posteriores permitieron la liberación de este clon como una nueva variedad con el nombre “Reiche”. Esta variedad es de alto rendimiento, periodo vegetativo corto y excelente calidad para el procesamiento en tiras.Su contenido de materia seca es de 22% en promedio y el contenido de azucares reductores menor a 0.2%. Es inmune a los virus PVX y PVY y moderadamente resistente a PLRV y muestra tolerancia a la mosca minadora. Reiche es muy tolerante a temperaturas nocturnas de hasta 18ºC y tolerante a suelos con problemas de sales, hasta 6 dS/cm2.

Along the Peruvian coast the high temperatures during the months from December to February limit potato production. In addition, the potato viruses, PLRV, PVY and PVX are most important biotic agents in the degeneration of the crop, infected tuber seeds transmitting the disease of the next generation reducing yields and utilization quality. Thus it isfundamental to improve the crop for tolerance to heat and resistance to the three principal viruses. In a genetic mating design line by tester, 12 PRLV resistant cultivars were used as lines and 5 heat tolerant and PVY and PVX immune clones were used as testers. Sixty (60) families were evaluated in two sites, Lima and Tacna during the summer of 1991. The purpose was to identify progenies withresistance to virus, desirable agronomic characteristics and high yields. Among the progenies the clone C91.612 (No CIP 388611.22), from the crossing of progenitors MEX. 32 x (XY-9) was identified. After a series of evaluations this outstanding clone was released as new variety with the name “Reiche”. This is a high yielding variety, with short growing period and excellent quality for processing as FrenchFries, with an average dry matter content of 22% and less than 0.2% reducing sugar content; immune to the viruses PVY and PVX, moderately resistant to PLRV and tolerant to miner fly. “Reiche” is also tolerant to high night temperatures up to 18ºC and presents tolerance to soil salinity, up to 6 dS/cm2.
