The extent the student used to plagiarize the passage was rephrasing. These students rephrase all the passage changing the order of words and using synonyms. In the original sourcesaid “it is very difficult to discover and virtually impossible to prove that a piece of biomedical research has been tainted by conflict of interest”. In the student passage said “But it is hard toknow if a conflict of interest between doctors, researchers, and the drug company stockholders has tainted the result”. The student clearly changed the order of the sentence and rephrases some of thewords. Also in the original source said “Although biomedical research incorporates rigorous scientific rules and is often critically scrutinized by peers, the information can nevertheless be warped-byending a study because the results are disappointing; changing rules mid-study; not trying to publish negative results; publicizing preliminary results even with final and less positive results in hand;skimming over or even not acknowledging drawbacks, and especially, casting the results in the best light or, as scientist say, buffing them”. And in the student passage said “Yet the resultinginformation can be warped for five reasons: ending a study too soon, not publishing negative results, publishing results too early, skimming over or ignoring drawbacks, and “buffing” the results by showingthem in the best light (Crossen, 1994, p.167)”. In this part of the passage the student rephrased the original source and the student made a misuse of the APA text citation. Recognize plagiarism isnot easy but there are a few resources we can use to help us identify plagiarism. One resource we can use is to revise the document to check if fallows the rubric of the task if it is one, or we cansummit the assignment to an online plagiarism checker.
