The poems im going to compare and contrast are “nothing’s changed” by tatamknla africa and “what were they like” by denise levertov
Both poems deal with disappointment in some way; innothing’s changed change was expected. It was expected that equality would happen and was inevitable. In “what were they like” there was a sere of despair. The Vietnamese lost hope andwith it, the war in their country.

The structure of “what were they like” is based on a guy that doesn’t know very much about the Vietnamese people, and he ask certain questions thatare very simple that demonstrate that he doesn’t know anything about Vietnam; the person that is answering the questions know more about the war and the Vietnamese people in general. Butin the poem “nothing’s changed” the structure is different because is based is 7 stanzas were talks about the difference between the places where black and white people spend their timeon.

The language they use in the poem “what were they like” shows us the ignorance of the soldiers that were sent to the war; here’s a fragment of the poem; “did the people of Vietnamuse lanterns of stone? Sir their lights hearts turned to stone; it is not remembered whether in gardens illumined pleasant ways” in here we can see that the person who is asking thequestions is maybe a soldier from us that was send to Vietnam to fight without information of the Vietnamese people.in the poem “nothing’s changed” the language shows all the treatmentsand differences between white and black people where it was everything supposed to change but everything stayed the same “new, up-market ,haut cuisine, ward at the gate post, whites onlyinn, no sign says it is but we know where we belong. Obviously change was expected but instead of that he remembers in his mind the place he used to eat wiping his fingers on his jeans.
