Puerto Madero

Puerto Madero is one of the 48 districts in which legally divides the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Its location near the downtown area of ​​the city.
The neighborhood is named after EduardoMadero, merchant of the city presented three draft harbor and the latter was approved by the then President.
The reason for creating Puerto Madero was the shallowness of the river that caused the shipscould not get too close to the coast.
But Madero project was much more pretentious, complex and expensive, since it was the filling of the coast of the Rio de la Plata from Cordova Street to the mouthof the Creek with dirt and rough, creating a huge artificial island separated from the city by four dams.
About ten years after completion, Puerto Madero was already completely obsolete due toenlarged growing vessels. The government had to deal with the construction of a new port and the result was the Puerto Nuevo, which opened in 1919 and is still active today.
Puerto Madero entered adecline of several decades, becoming one of the most damaged areas of the city, with its huge land abandoned warehouse that never came to be built.
On 15 November 1989, the Ministry of Public Works andServices, the Ministry of Interior and the Muncipalidad of Buenos Aires signed the charter of a corporation called "Corporación Antiguo Puerto Madero". Aiming at the development of the area, thegovernments of the Nation and the city participated as equal partners.
The first phase of revitalization of Puerto Madero began in 1994, with recycling tanks with brick facade on the east side of the levee,which was formed in a food pole several blocks extension that quickly became fashionable and was a success.
Since 1997, renovation began on the other side of the levees: opened numerous streets,boulevards and avenues were created plazas and parks, monuments and fountains were installed and renovated existing historic infrastructure.
