Nowadays, experimentation with alcohol and drugs among teenagers is a common event. All teenagers at one time or another will try these things, for various reasons. Unfortunately, these young adults don’t often see the link between theiractions of today and the consequences of tomorrow. They, at this early stage in life feel that they are correct, that also have a tendency to feel that they are indestructible and immune to the problems that others experience. But yet we have seen where this path can take them, to hospitals, to prisons, to the cemetery, every day, wherever we look, whether it’s in our house or a friend’s there areyoung men or women who have a problem, a drinking problem that is, what is going to be done here is look at some of the basic problems of teenage alcoholism, and where the consequences may take them and how we can help these teenagers.
Certainly, adolescence is a transition time when the body is undergoing many significant changes, such as hormonal alterations and brain development. It is also atime when young people start to associate more with friends and ‘fit in’ or ‘go along with the crows’ in order to be accepted socially. These new circumstances can be confusing and difficult for the youth o understand and deal with. Often their ability to make correct or safe decisions is also at a stage of immaturity. And this is also time when they test boundaries, or the established rules thatexist in the house, attempting to go beyond or break causes family problems, therefore they “seek a second family, their friends”.
Commonly often teens are to try, or pushed to try it because of peer pressure. Friends will tell them that it’s cool, go ahead it’s relaxing. And it’ll make your Saturday night so much more fun. These so called “friends” will paint you a beautiful picture, that you’repart of the “in crowd”, they will do or say anything to get you to drink, until you picture yourself all alone, walking from side to side “because you are so drunk that you can’t walk straight!” down the road, and throwing up in the middle f the street-nothing cool, relaxing or fun about that!.Whenever, teens are more likely to start experimenting with drinking if they have parents who drink, ifthey have friends who are also drinking, and if their parents don’t give them clear messages about not drinking outside the house (if they are allowed to drink some wine with dinner, for instance), also, alcohol is a powerful drug and changes how you feel. Some of the initial sensations at lower blood alcohol levels are pleasant and it is this sensation that many teens, as well as adults, seek.Alcohol is a central nervous system depressant. So if you’re tense or uptight, drinking some alcohol will, at least initially, reduce some of that tension and help you “chill out,” there are many others reasons why teens drink but to answer in depth would take an entire book. Every day, wherever we look, whether it`s in our house or in a friend`s, there are young men or women with a drinking problemthat is severe, there are basic causes of teenage alcoholism and the consequences that affect young people and how we can help these teenagers. If you’re concerned about some of your friends’ drinking, consider talking with an adult in whom you can confide.
Unfortunately, when teenagers who drink attempt to hide their drinking problems from their parents. The first clue is to watch for signs ofsecretive behavior. Lying, making excuses for where they’ve been, having alcohol on their breath or body, and secluding themselves from the family are all warning signs.
Obviously, other symptoms include mood swings, becoming abusive or excessively angry, sudden changes in friends, missing school and stealing. If you note these changes in your teen’s behavior, you should not let them slide. Start...
