Reading Experience

Writing and Reading Portrait
My first time picking up a book to read, I cannot recall. I do however; remember having to read to earn a Six Flags ticket at end of the school year. This wasback when I was in 5th grade. My teacher’s name was Mrs. Sass. As I type this essay my mind is slowing recalling all of my reading and writing experiences.
I was not much of a reader or writergrowing up. In fact I would say I read more today than when I was in elementary. That does not mean I did not read or write, surely I had to in order to get to where I am today. In elementary we hadto write about our summer vacation, holidays, family and so on. Personally I really did not enjoy this and I’ll tell you why. I had trouble collecting my thoughts and would get distracted very easily.To make it worse we had to read our own paper in front of the whole class. This was not fun, having everyone hear your own story. Sometimes, I would ask a friend to read my story and I would readhis. Somehow, this gave me a little more confidence to stand up in front of the class. For some reason putting my personal thoughts and feelings on paper and then having to share them with others didnot seem appropriate.
After elementary, I moved on to middle school. However, I do not remember doing much reading or writing in Junior High. I do recall having to keep a journal. I would writeabout how I spent the weekend, the things I liked and some more personal stuff. It was my journal and only the teacher would sometimes read it. This continued on into high school. Now in high schoolI do remember having to do research papers and I hated it. I would always wait to the last minute. Remember me telling about having to collect my thought on paper. Well in high school I was stillstruggling with that. I would read a few chapters from one book take some notes. Read some more from another book take more notes. But, then I would have trouble putting all my notes on paper in a...
