The story starts when Maxim the winter went to Monte Carlo and he met Mrs. Van Hopper and the narrator. The narrator was shy, so beautiful and very young.Then she received a note from Maxim. The following day Mrs. Van Hopper woke up with a sore throat and the narrator had lunch with Max. After that they had a fantasticday out together and the narrator found a book that had the name Rebecca on it. She immediately remembered that Rebecca was Max’s wife and she had died. The narrator andMax spent a lot of days together in Monte Carlo and they fell in love. Some days later Mrs. Van Hopper wanted to go to new York and Max asked the narrator to getmarried with him. They got married and they came to Manderley. When they arrived at Manderley, the narrator met the staff and Mrs. Danvers who was the housekeeper showedthe narrator’s bedroom in the east wing. The narrator was afraid of Mrs Danvers. Life in Manderley was very carefully planned, it was like a routine but the narratorfelt in the wrong place. The following day Maxim’s sister appeared with his husband and Frank Crawley. They spent a good time in the garden and Beatrice said that thenarrator was so very different from his old wife. Next day the narrator and Maxim Decided to go to a place called Happy Valley. This Valley was the heart of Manderleyand they went there with Jasper the dog. Then Jasper climbed over the rocks and the narrator was going towards his dog. They were in a bay and Jasper was with a strangeman. After that the narrator found a cottage in the Bay but they came back to Manderley to have tea. The narrator thought that she couldn’t escape from Rebecca.
