Reckless Driving



In El Salvador there have been many deviant behaviors that have been growing over the years, one of which is reckless driving. Reckless driving in El Salvador has grownlargely over the past years. This reckless driving is mostly due to drunk drivers on their way home or to another club after partying. On July 7th of this year there was an article published in “La PrensaGrafica”, a newspaper from El Salvador, called “Conductores Temerarios Suman 813.” This title translated to English is “Reckless Drivers Sum 813.” This means that by July 7th there were a total of 813reckless drivers detained by the Sub-Directorate of transit of the National Civil Police. According to the article there were 241 accidents caused by drunk drivers and 11 deaths due to theseaccidents. These 813 reckless drivers are not just in San Salvador but all over El Salvador. This means that it is becoming a nationwide deviant behavior. These are just according to the “La Prensa Grafica”dating up until July 7th. However, in another article published by the National Civil Police in August 25th of this year it is stated that up to that date there have been 1,134 reckless driversarrested at a national level. Just on August 25th there were 15 reckless drivers arrested. That shows that this is a deviant behavior that is happening on a daily basis no just in San Salvador but in everypart of El Salvador. Based on these facts it is easy to tell that reckless driving along with drunk driving is becoming a national issue that is affect the way society works or functions on a dailybasis.
This is something that can be investigated from a functionalist point of view from a sociological standpoint. In functionalism a society is supposed to work smoothly. Functionalists observe howaspects of a society function or adapt making it work as a whole. According to the book Introduction to Sociology “functionalists know at any given time, some parts of the system don’t work well.”...
