ABSTRACT
In today generation, Most of the today internetis using IPv4,
which is now twenty years old.IPv4 is now coming up with the
problem of fulfilling requirements of growing internet and there
is a shortage of IPv4 addresses, which are needed by all new
machines added to the internet.IPv6 fixes a number of problems
in IPv4 addresses .It also adds many improvements to IPv4 and
provides better network.. IPv6 is expected to gradually replaceIPv4, with the two coexisting for a number of years during a
transition period.
As the population is increasing day by day, similarly Internet is
also growing and expanding larger and becoming more crowded,
government, scientists, and universities are looking for new ways
to send information quickly and powerfully Both new Internets
hope to develop new, faster technologies to enhance researchand
communication, and it is expected that both projects will
eventually improve the current commercial Internet. One big
benefit of the IPv6 is that it simplifies and solves the problem of
shortage of IP addresses. In the current internet based technology,
the United States controls 74 per cent of 4 billions IP addresses,
while the amount that china has is only equal to the University ofCalifornia despite of its 80 million users. That is the major reason
why Asian countries especially China, Japan and South Korea are
showing interest in IPv6 Technology.
Need of Next Generation Internet
IPv4 delivers only a fix amount of IP address and hence fails to
support the new machines connected to internet whereas IPv6
delivers a nearly infinite amount of IP addresses that can supportthe new upcoming computer systems .The scarcity of IPv4
address space also restricts the introduction of applications,
innovative new services that can be rolled out across both
business and home networks. Without sufficient address space,
applications are forced to work in a very complex environment
with mechanisms that provide local addressing, such as IP
address conversion, pooling andtemporary allocation techniques.
The current internet can not support a number of important issues,
including national security, economic competitiveness and social
goals. Perhaps the defining characteristic of the next generation
internet is speed, this generation of internet is primarily launched
to accommodate increasing traffic and skyrocketing bandwidth
demand to match the high levelinternet speeds. In addition to
expansion in the series of internet addresses, Next generation
internet solves the problem of dial-up busy signals and poor
quality video and audio streams

Ipv6 is the next in the advancement of IP’s. Although it is
version 6 it will probably be the next widely deployed
Internet protocol. Compared to the Ipv4 which allows for
only 4,294,967,296 uniqueaddresses, the Ipv6 that uses a
128-bit system will hold 340-undecillion (34, 000, 000, 000,
000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000) this number is
so vast that there are more unique ip addresses than stars in
the universe, as we know it. However, the Ipv6 will not come
out till at least 2025 in because they need time to fix the bugs
in
the
protocol.

Why IPv4 over IPv6
The reason we may need to switch from Ipv4 to Ipv6 is
because of the population of the world. The rate at which the
world’s population is growing is nothing to look down at.
Also in the future all vehicles will probably be networked in
order to use Onstar or other navigational devices and those
