Religion and Death in Two Different Cultures

The Catholicism is the most known religion in Mexico, while in the US is the
Christianism. We will focus in the catholic religion and we willcompare the difference
between Mexico and the US ,and how religion is involved in death. Mexican people see
the religion like faith and belief. The religion involves love and social attitude.They think it
is important to have moral, while Americans see the religion like faith and belief and more
like an issue of personal election. They conceive many religions, practice and religiousobjects.

First of all we can say that for Mexicans, the Catholicism teaches values, and affects
the personal and social life through a strong emotional communication with God and theteachings. God is supreme, with force and power, and a lovely and, compressive father
and Americans think that the relationship with God is really personal. It gets and emotional
ingredient lessintense. They think more like a cult, pray, and religious practices. There´s a
big tradition that we celebrate in Mexico called, “The Day of the Dead” which objective is to
help the dead people whorecently died, to find the way to the other world and to
remember does ones who died many years ago. It’s a party that combines Catholic and
Indian traditions; it is celebrated 3,000 years ago. Thetradition establishes that the “Altar”
should have 7 stages that represent the 7 steps of the soul for the purgatory. It should
have yellow and purple flowers (life and death), water, food, fruitsand a picture of the
dead person. If it’s for children it should have toys and candies that he/she liked. It
is celebrated the 1st of November like the “Day of the dead” and “All Saints Day”. Itis celebrated in Mexico and in Central America, but there are many places in the
US, where there is a big Mexican population and they celebrate it too.
