RESUMEN
En 1987 y teniendo como principal motivación la necesidad de solucionar
una serie de problemas que aquejaban a la población, el municipio de Versalles en el Valle del Cauca empieza a realizar un trabajo que sin estar enmarcado en la estrategia “Municipios Saludables por la Paz”, tenía todas
sus características. En 1992 la Organización Panamericana de la Salud inicia la cooperacióntécnica al municipio, lo que favorece el trabajo hacia la
consolidación como Municipio Saludable; lo que conlleva a que en 1995 el
municipio sea catalogado “Municipio Saludable por la Paz”; desde entonces
ha sido reconocido como municipio modelo, y su experiencia ha sido presentada a nivel internacional como una de las más exitosas de Municipios
Saludables, que tiene como clave del éxito laimportancia que le ha dado a
su comunidad y la labor educativa para el desarrollo a nivel individual, cultural y de habilidades sociales. El interés básico con la estrategia de Municipio
Saludable por la paz en éste municipio es la generación de riqueza en la
sociedad, una riqueza social y cultural, proceso en el cual todas las acciones se constituyen como factor fundamental ya que se operan a travésde
unos valores y una ética social responsable.

ABSTRACT
The social responsibility in healthy municipalities for the peace
strategy. Case study
During 1987 and having as main motivationthe need to solve a series of
social problems suffered by the population, the municipality of Versalles in
the Valle of the Cauca began to develop a work very close to the strategy of
“Healthy municipalities for the peace”, even through it was not properly
framed within that strategy at that movement.
In 1992 Pan American Health Organization began a technical cooperation
program with themunicipality, which was aimed to favor the work towards
the consolidation of the town as a “Healthy town”. A process that in 1995
resulted in the fact that the town of Versalles became classified as a Healthy
Municipality by the Peace"; from then on Versalles has been recognized like
a model municipality, and its experience has been presented at international
level as one of the most successful of thestrategy. The process in Versalles
has like a key of success the importance that was given to its community
and the educational work looking for the development of social abilities both
at individual and cultural level. The basic aim of the strategy of Healthy
Municipalities for the peace in this town has been the generation of richness
in the society, both in social and cultural terms, a process inwhich the social
and ethical values were at the center of all the actions that have been doing.
