Introduction:
Our cells have a semipermeable membrane whichmeans that it will only let some substances pass. Water is one of the substances which don’t have trouble crossing the membrane. Something cells do isthe process of osmosis. A way of describing this is imagining a bunch of cells in liquid solution like water. These cells have water inside them andwill always try to make their concentration be the same of the water that is in the outside. If we added water to the liquid solution, the saltconcentration would be higher and cells would want to be that way. To reach it, they would expulse water to have less amount of water and return to theconcentration it had before. In our experiment, the cells are balloons, and when the osmosis process takes place, the balloons shrink because of the lossof water. The independent variables which will vary will be the concentration of sugar, salt and water in the solution, and the dependent variableswhich will stay the same will be the size of the balloons, the amount of water in the balloons, and the size of the containers approximately.
