Summary Educating Rita

Educating Rita was written by Willy Russell. It details the changes to Rita before and after summer school in England, this is a story made up by two acts. The first actcontains eight scenes and their respective notes; the second act has seven scenes.
Firstly, the author locates the places where the characters will develop this story; wich is a room on the firstfloor of a Victorian built university in the north of England. Then one of the main characters is presented. He is Frank, who is in the early fifties, he appears to be a depressive and drunk man, heseems like a person who is bored about his job and routine, he belongs to a comfortable middle class lifestyle and has achieved some minor success as a poet and he also has a relationship with Julia,which is not an easy one.
The other principle character is Rita, a working class twenty-six years old; she is a hairdresser who decides to take a literature course at the Open University.
Frank isRita’s tutor, he discovered in her, a different type of student. She is very talkative, dispersed and disquiet. She is married with Denny, who does not support her idea about going to the OpenUniversity.
Each scene is about a literature class where Rita tries to express her opinion, which is related to her context or reality, from a very subjective point of view about some poems and books.
Buton the other hand Frank guides to an objective analysis using her ideas to proofread her.
In each class they do not only speak about literature. They also talk about their personal life. When theyhave a conversation, it is like if they were speaking two different languages, because Rita speaks colloquially, in every local language and she has a working class accent and usually she speak withirony.
Frank, in contrast, speaks in Standard English without any noticeable accent. He thinks she is the first breath of air that’s been in his class room for years. In consequence, she tries to...
