When chlorine is mixed with water another substance is created called hypochlorous acid, this acid is the destructive form of chlorine because it has the potential tokill all bacteria and deactivate many harmful organisms that could eventually affect the surface of the pool and anyone who decides to swim in the pool, if those harmful organisms are not killed.Although chlorine does a very good job in keeping pH levels in pools to neutral and keeping the pool sanitized, chlorine does have some negative aspects in using this substance as a pool sanitizer. Forexample chlorine is the main cause of eye irritation for swimmers and it also has a very strong odor that is not pleasant for most people. Some people are also allergic to the powerful substancetherefore some pool owners are questioning the use of chlorine for their pools. Instead many pool owners are initiating an alternative for chlorine called biguanide.
