Tumbler Lock
The ancient tumbler lock was invented around 1000 BCE. Many sources believe this lock was invented in Egypt, though locks of this type have been found in ruins in Iraq. After itsinvention and its movement into Egypt, the lock made its way into Greece. Here this new system was a great improvement over the previous locks, which were simply a board drawn across a door. At that times,people wished to have more privacy so that led to the thinking of new minds of inventors to create the famous tumbler lock, that was very useful to the ancient society.
Based on a scientific method,inventors of ancient Greek civilizations made a question according to the problem: What can we create so that all kind of doors can close and can keep a complete privacy? Having two variables thataffected the problem, society being the independent and the possible artifact invented being the dependent one, the inventors formulated a hypothesis. This hypothesis consisted on the prediction: If weinvent an artifact that would create privacy in all kinds of rooms, then society would be pleased and we would be able to have a sure privacy.
After the hypothesis was done, the experiment took placeand it consisted in the mechanism of a key and a lock. The key was simply a bit of wood with small pins, usually of brass. These pins entered small holes in the bolt and lift similar pins in the lock.The pins of the key pushed the lock pins out of the holes, and the bolt can be moved aside and the door opened. When leaving the building, the bolt was slid across the door jamb, and the pins fallinto the grooves in the bolt. To unlock, the key is slid into the opening in the bolt and lifted up, which moves the bolt-pins out of the way.
At the end, The results of the experiment were positive,so the hypothesis that was formulated was right, the tumbler lock was a success because it worked in all kind of doors. In addition, Conclusions that are reached from the result is that the society...
