1. During what period did the death penalty exist?
There’s no the exact year when they began using it but they stop it on 2004

2. Was it used for all crimes, or was it usedonly for exceptional crimes such as wartime crimes?
It was used for crimes against the state, the government, the Constitution and military, and a further ten for common criminal offences such as murderand rape. These 24 articles defined a total of 29 offences.
3. When was it abolished?
At beginnings of august in 2002, Turkey has abolished the death penalty in peacetime as part of a raft ofreforms aimed at preparing the country for European Union membership. Later on in 2004 it was abolished in wartime.

4. What is the current situation? For example, does the death penalty stillexist, or has it been abolished? If it still exists in the law books, is it being used?
The current situation in Turkey about the capital punishment is over; it was abolished about 8 years ago.
5.Are there any plans to change the current death penalty laws?
No as the Turkey replaced it with aggravated life imprisonment, the prisoners are held in individual cells in high security prisons andare allowed to exercise in a neighboring yard one hour per day. They are kept in solitary confinement in individual cells.

What I learned about the death penalty in Turkey is that they hadn’t usedthe death penalty since 1984; they just had a list of people which was under investigation in order to see if they are guilty or not guilty. I believe that they stop using it in 1984 because they startto recognize the human rights, and that it was not the correct solution, for ending with the criminals.
Another thing I believe in is that the Turkey government finally recognizes that they were alsobecoming murders of the criminals; even thought it was for punishment but they were doing the exact thing. Finally in 2002 they abolished the capital punishment for peacetime, and later on 2004...
