A) The main reasons thatcontribute to water pollution are:
• The outflow of water polluted by phosphates, heavy metals and solvents after being used by factories. (Industrial cause)
• The seepage by theground of impure water (because of the effect that fertilisers and pesticides cause on it) from farm to gardens directing it to the water table. (Agricultural cause)
• The presence ofphosphates as part of many domestic cleaning products. Once they reach the water supply (if their levels are significant) the encourage algae to grow preventing sunlight to reach water and making theprocess of photosynthesys impossible. (Domestic cause)
• Accidental discharge of oil spillages from supertankers. (Industrial cause)
• Acid rain caused by emissions of carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides. (Industrial and Natural cause)
