What is Love?

A lot of people think of love as rainbows, red roses, pink hearts and ponies. I believe love is the act of putting someone else’s needs or desires before your own to see them succeedor benefit from it. At times so strong to where it can become an act so selfless that the ultimate sacrifice is made to give up one’s life for another to live. As cited in the Bible, the book of John15:13 reads “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends”. Jesus said this to his disciple John on the night before they were to crucify Jesus.

God is perhapsthe best way I ever thought to define love as. I was always taught and still believe that “God is love”. So, if God is love, love must be all things right and pure with no wrongs. The famous scriptureof John 3:16 reads “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life”. Also Romans 5:8 reads, “But Goddemonstrates his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us”. God gave the ultimate sacrifice of life without placing any conditions. He did it to erase the sins of an ungratefulpeople so that we might have a shot at eternal salvation. It’s no wonder that we look at him as our spiritual father. Only someone that close could care about us so much to give everything withoutexpecting anything in return.

The love of a mother is unconditional and unselfish. A mother will always put her children before her regardless of how good or bad of an apple that child may be. In myfamily for example, my brother has been a pothead since he was 15 years old. As soon as he was introduced to weed he was hooked. That and his new friends lead him to occasional meth use and partyinghere and there. Till this day he has never kept a steady job for more than a couple weeks long so he recycles at night to support his habits. He’s been in and out of jail since then and is now 30...
