Zimbabwe
To talk about Zimbabwe takes us back to the time in which it suffered because of the gold exploitation. It is one of many African countries that have suffered discrimination and badgovernors who haven’t improved their life conditions.
It was known as Rhodesia and it fought for freedom against the British. Eventually they were granted their independence in 1980, but it hasn’t benefitedthem because the principal promoter of independence, Robert Mugabe, is still governing the country.
This country has one of the lowest Human Development Index in the world, with a level of 0,140.This is due to poverty, which affects all regions from the country. Hyperinflations, lack of currency and supply shortages contribute to the country´s little wealth. There has been published that, inthe last few years, agricultural production has decreased quickly and 60% of wild life has disappeared. Another problem is that deforestation has increased dramatically and it affects the ecosystem.Zimbabwe is a South African country; it collides with Zambia, Mozambique, South Africa, and Botswana. Official language is English, but the Shona and Ndebele ethnic groups have their own language.There are many tribes that have their own dialects. In this country life expectancy is 39 years, which is a low number (although common in Africa) but, 90% of the population is literate, which is one ofthe highest percentages in all Africa.
Zimbabwe is one of the few countries in Africa that gives more importance and relevance to occidental culture. Artists from there are truly respected and admiredby all the people. Art like ceramics, jewelry and pottery are recognized and appreciated. Artists from Zimbabwe stay on their country, while most of the artists of other African countries go toEurope.
