URIBURU`S HOUSE
History
We are standing in front of Uriburu´s house. This simple house was built in the XVIII century. It is located on caseros street, which it was called Realde San Francisco. It is a very good example of the colonial architecture of Salta.
It was built by the General Felix Arias Rengel, for one of his daughter. The house had successiveprestigious owners. Like In 1802 don Juan Antonio Alvarez de Arenales, Field Marshal of Chile, Director and Marshal of Peru and Mayor Governor of Salta, lived there.
It was in 1810 when thehouse was occupied by the Uriburu family and thereafter was succeeding by inheritance in the same family. Besides two Presidents of Argentina,Dr. José Evaristo Uriburu and Lieutenant General José FélixUriburu, born there. When in 1947 it became the property of Dr. José Evaristo Uriburu and Mrs. Leonor Anchorena, the couple decided to donate it to the state.
The house was declaredNational Historic Monument in 1943 and a few years later began its restoration. Today the house serves as a museum and historical library specializing since opening to the public in 1955. The permanentexhibition of customs and traditions try reflect by objects, paintings and forniture exposed, the evolution of the daily life of the past and of evolution that it was experiencing the house from thecolonial period. The museum provides the public consultation of the library "Monsignor Miguel Vergara Angle", specializing in history, art and museology in the region
ArchitectureThis simple house is built of adobe, covered with reeds and tiles on wood structure pairs and knuckles. As you can see, one of the outstanding characteristics is its direct entry from thestreet to the main courtyard.
What is interesting is that it has a structure around patios, narrow and irregularly batch forced to conceive a plant that is not traditional in colonial homes....
