An Amazing Place
Two years ago, specifically on August 28th, Bruno a lonely and angry American guy, visited Tacna by mistake. Actually he really wanted to visit Arequipa and Cuzco because he hadheard that tourism was good there but, finally he arrived in Tacna. When he was at the airport he asked for the map of the city and it said Tacna! He fell quite angry and disappointed; however, hecontinued taking a taxi to be taken to a hotel.
When he arrived to the hotel (the best one of the city), he took a room and asked the receptionist for information about the most important places forvisiting in the city. The first place she suggested was the Main Square, “why the Main Square?” Bruno asked, “Everybody recommends it”. The receptionist replied “yes but it will be different today. Brunothanked her and leaved the hotel.
Bruno was walking along the Main Square and wondered “what is it?” “Why are there lot of people?” Many people were waiting there for something too; adults, children,teenagers, the army, the police officers, and everybody. After a time he heard the music band playing a strong and melancholic melody. He saw a Big Flag being carried along the street just by women,and then he assisted, immediately, to the ceremony.
He enjoyed and loved the “Flag Procession” but, he didn’t know and understood the reasons why people held that amazing ceremony.
After the end ofthe ceremony he went to a tourist information office and asked to the lady who was working there to give him, please, the reasons of that huge ceremony that was carried on with pride and patriotism.The lady said to him: sir it is a great ceremony that all the “tacneños” hold every August 28th, as a way, to remember the reasons why Tacna is considered Peruvian twice!
