ANÁLISIS DEL CUENTO “EL PERJURIO DE LA NIEVE”
DE BIOY CASARES: GÉNERO, CRONOTOPOS E
INFLUENCIAS*

Abstract
The following study firstly analyzes, Bioy Casares’s short story, “El
perjurio de la nieve” from the viewpoint of the literary genres, mainly on
the basis of Todorov’s classification. Afterwards the short story in question
is analyzed accordingly from theperspective of the chronotope concept
which proposes that in literature “spatial and temporal indicators are fused
into one intelligible and concrete whole”. This “formally constitutive”
concept put forward by Bakhtin, Russian philosopher and literary theorist,
points out to time and space as a single category. This polyphonic short
story is characterized by a marvelous event of spatiotemporalcharacter
that corresponds to the “labyrinth chronotope” that is linked with the
notion of the “still time”. In addition to this main element, other common
chronotopic symbols that take place in the complex structure of the story
and a variety of intertextual relations are analyzed. In order to provide a
holistic approach to the story from the given point of view, the influence
of the works of JorgeLuis Borges is also taken into account. For this
purpose, Göran Hermerén’s theory is applied and it is concluded that
“El perjurio de la nieve” could be qualified as an allusion-work. On the
other hand, the similar forms under which the “labyrinth chronotope”
manifests in Borges’s short stories are taken into account and discussed.

Özet
Bu çalışmada, Bioy Casares’in “El perjurio de la nieve” adlı öyküsü,
öncelikle edebi türler bakış açısından ağırlıklı olarak Todorov’un
sınıflandırması temel alınarak incelenmektedir. Buna bağlı olarak, ilgili
öykü edebiyatta “uzamsal ve zamansal belirticilerin anlaşılır ve somut bir
bütün olarak” birleşimini konu alan, kronotop kavramı bakış açısındançözümlemektedir. Rus filozof ve edebiyat kuramcısı Bahtin tarafından
ortaya konan bu “biçimsel olarak kurucu” kavram, zaman ve uzama tek
bir kategori olarak işaret etmektedir. Söz konusu çoksesli öykünün ayırt
edici özelliği, “donmuş zaman” ile bağlantılı “labirent kronotopu”na
karşılık gelen zaman-uzamsal nitelikte bir olağanüstü olaydır. Bu ana
unsurun yanı sıra, öykünün karmaşık yapısında yer alan diğerkronotop
sembolleri ve çeşitli metinlerarası ilişkiler de çözümlenmektedir. Öyküye,
ilgili bakış açısından incelenmesinde bütünsel bir bakış sağlayabilmek
için Jorge Luis Borges’in eserlerinin etkisi de değerlendirilmiştir. Bu
amaçla, Göran Hermerén’in edebiyat ve sanatta etkiye dair kuramından
yararlanılmış ve “El perjurio de la nieve”nin bir gönderme-öykü
olarak nitelendirilebileceği sonucunavarılmıştır. Öte yandan, “labirent
kronotopu”nun Borges’in çeşitli öykülerinde aldığı diğer biçimlere dair
değerlendirmelere yer verilmektedir.

1.1. El género literario
El cuento, de índole fantástica, fue publicado por primera vez en 19441 e
incluido posteriormente en La trama celeste(1948). La obra también se puede
considerar un cuento policiaco, como demuestra Mireya Camurati que señala
dos rasgos típicos, el de “la averiguación de una intriga o plan delictuoso”,
y la presencia de “un investigador, policía o detective” (1990: 75). El relato,
