Gnome and Juliet

I have always heard about the classic story of Romeo and Juliet, but to be honest I never read it or even watched a movie about, as it seemed really boring and old fashioned.Gnome and Juliet, allowed me to know more details about the classic Shakespeare movie, without spending so much time and in a different way.

This original movie, show us the best known love story livedby gnomes. The whole plot of this movie develops in the gardens of two neighboring houses. In one house´s garden live the blue gnomes, while in the other the red´s do. They have been confronted formany years but no one seems to know the real reason of the problem.

The son of the blue gnomes leaders and the daughter of the red ones leader cross in their intent of making damage to the otherband and instantly fall in love of each other. Then many problems appear as their parents find out their relationship between one of the blues and one of the reds and try to stop it.

One of the maindifferences between this plot and the Shakespeare one´s, is the end of the story. In the movie, when it seems that both Gnome and Juliet are going to die and the movie would end tragically, theysurvive and all gnomes lived happily forever. This point is one of the most hardly criticized as critics say that the essence of the story is changed. I totally disagree with those views, as in my opinionthis modifications are perfect in order to make the story easier to tell and for children to get a good impression of it.

I think that this movie have a central and clear message which is totallypositive in contrast with the real story one´s. In this case the gnomes fight for love but that don’t have to end tragically. This film also show moral values opposing to preconceptions about thedifferent, which I can relate to a fight against racism. But more implicitly is shown that any book or film or anything can be modified and adapted in order to express something positive to the society,...
