Apple Inc. is an American and multinational corporation that designs and sells consumer electronics, computer software, and personal computers. Apple was established on April 1st, 1976 in Cupertino, California and incorporated on January 3, 1977. Although the company was named Apple Computer Inc., the word “computer” was removed from its name on January 9, 2007. Thechange in the company’s name was a result of a shift from focusing only on personal computers to also consumer electronics. The change of focusing only on computers to consumer electronics has been very important to the company’s name and economic success.
Another important characteristic of Apple Inc. is that it not only designs the hardware of products but also their software. The company’sbest-known hardware products include the Macintosh line of computers, the iPod, the iPhone, and the iPad. Apples’s success in their hardware has been thanks to their software which complements its hardware in quality, efficiency, and stability. Apples’s software includes the important OS X computer operating system which includes popular programs like iTunes. One day attempting to sell their firstpersonal computer, Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne decided to establish Apple Computer Inc. The computer that they were trying to sell was called “Apple I.” It went on sale in July 1976 at the price of approximately $666.67 dollars.
In January 3, 1977, Apple was incorporated without Ronald Wayne, founder who sold back his share of the company to Steve Jobs for $800. Next in April 16th,1977, Apple introduces its next generation of computers, the Apple II. This computer was very successful because it was better than other models. The Apple II was so good that it was chosen to be the desktop platform for the first business application- the Visicle Spreadsheet Program. The Visicale integration was very important to Apple Inc. because it created a business market for the Apple IIcomputer. With this new business software, home users and people who worked in offices would have an additional reason to buy and Apple computer.
By the end of the 1970s, Apple Inc. would start to show their success by having a staff of computer designers and a product line. With this continuing success in its production of computers, Apple Inc. would start to compete with important companies like IBMand Microsoft. When Apple went public, it generated more capital than any other company since the Ford Motor Company in 1956. It is believed that Apple Inc. was so successful that it instantly created more millionaires than any other company in history. By 1978 and 1982, a few fights within the company came up. It appears that Steve Jobs, one of the founders, was pushed out of his own project, acomputer being developed called the “Apple Lisa.”
After being pushed out of his project, Jobs took over another project that had the mission of creating a low-cost computer. Later, a problem broke out between the two projects. Apple Inc. was in a time of danger and needed a computer that would save the company from falling of the position it was.
In 1983, Job’s project was turned down and theApple Lisa became the first personal computer sold to the public with a Graphical User Interface (GUI). After the launch of Lisa, Apple found itself in a commercial failure because the Lisa model had not been successful on its sales. In 1984, Apple made a great decision by launching Steve Jobs’ project called the Macintosh (Mac). The Macintosh initially sold well, but the following sales were notvery strong due to its high price and limited software applications. Although Apple’s luck changed, thanks to the publication of many important computer programs that would give Apple a new hope on the market. Apple’s computers had a big advantage compared to other computers in graphics. That’s why it was chosen by many companies to use their software.
