We are slaves to the corporate media because we have given them the power to control us. If they say this is right, then we go and do it, if they saythis is wrong we just follow their command. They would say this is cool, this product is fancy, this is the new fashion, and we consumers will buy it, use it, and wear it in a slavish way.

But itis not fair to completely blame the corporate media of transforming us into slaves of their marketing techniques; after all they need to sell their products. Some of the blame must fall to society aswell, we have given them the power. At first we had the power to choose what we wanted to wear and buy, what we wanted to watch on television and what kind of music to listen. In actuality we have theright to choose, but not the power to.

You’ve probably heard you have freedom of choice; you have the right to choose between right or wrong, between what to like and what to dislike. What’s wrongnow a days is that you don’t have the power to choose, you’re only given the right to. Why? Because power of choice has been taken from society by the corporate media.

An advertisement for Cokewill show that a life full of joy and happiness depends upon whether you drink Coke or not. Eventually, society, as a reaction to this command, will drink Coke, and pretend to be happy because of Coke.Once again we had the right to choose between Coke and Pepsi, however we didn’t had the power to choose between both. The reason is simple: because Coke is the pathway to happiness and Pepsi… wellPepsi is just Pepsi, another soft-drink.

But how did the corporate media take the power of choice from us? - Through social movements in which society itself feels identified with. “The merchants ofcool” are an example of this.
