It was 1920 when a young man decided it was time to leave his small town to travel the world. So begins a wonderful story. |
|
Augusto Carmelo was his name, a thin youngman, strong, from a good family and eager to explore outside of his beloved town. He lived in a place called Saint Augustin in South America, a place with few inhabitants. |
|
Augusto was a poorman; however, he sold his horse and two cows, which were the only things he had in order to buy a ticket to travel by boat to Europe. |
|
The rumor of the Augusto's trip to Europe was quicklyspreaded throughout the village; people could not believe that someone left the small Saint Augustin to visit other cities. |
|
The long-awaited day arrived. He took a small suitcase containing afew clothes, an old book, a crucifix and many wonderful dreams to be fulfilled. |
|
At 8 am, the ship departed from the little place where he was born and had many beautiful memories. |
|
Onthe boat, Augusto met some important people; doctors, teachers, bankers and even a painter who traveled to Europe. Neither could understand how a man like him was traveling to Europe without evenhaving money for food. |
|
After two days of travel, ship passengers were awakened at midnight by a strong blow. People screaming and running from one side to the other after a huge stone opened ahole in the boat, causing serious damage. |
|
The ship began to sink quickly, and some people managed to jump into the icy water of the ocean, but all died. All, except one, a young man from SaintAugustin, who sat in his nearly empty suitcase floating in the ocean on a very dark night. |
|
Augusto's dream to visit Europe sank into the sea, and now their expectations had changed a lot.Alone in the vastness of the sea now his greatest desire was to survive and be able to see the beach from your dear town. |

At dawn Augusto saw a small island not far from where he stood, took...
