Big Bang is oneof Asia's most successful acts and has been labelled as the "Revolutionary Group of Hallyu Wave"[2] for their unique musical style compared to other Korean groups. They have also been coined asHallyu's leading boy group due to their immense success and influence.[3] Since their debut, Big Bang had already released several successful singles, extended plays, and studio albums. Although their firstfull-length album, BigBang Vol. 1 did not fully captivate the general public due to their attempt of the hip hop and RnB genre, they later found success with their first extended play, Always in2007, nearly a year after their debut. The album spawned their first #1 hit Lies (Korean: 거짓말; Revised Romanization: Geojitmal), which stayed on the #1 spot on various music charts for 7 consecutiveweeks. Since the fame of Seo Taji and Boys, Big Bang was the first rookie group to be placed as number one for a month-long period. In the same year, Big Bang received the "Song of the Year Award" for Liesat the 2007 Mnet Asian Music Awards.
The follow-up Hot Issue and Stand Up extended plays were similarly successful,[4] spawning #1 hits like "Haru Haru" and "Last Farewell". After they hadreceived the "Artist of the Year" award from the Mnet Asian Music Awards and the "Seoul Gayo Daesang" award, the group expanded their endeavors to Japan, releasing mini-albums and airplay singles.
