Continuing the theme of Astronomy, we are today with the figure of Thales of Miletus (624-546 BC), well known to be born and reside in the Greek city of Miletus in Asia Minor (now Turkey).He was one of the seven sages of Greece, perhaps best known for his contributions to philosophy and mathematics, but also was a prominent astronomer, science must learn from Egyptians and Babylonians.As such it was a close observer of the Little Dipper and instructed to guide mariners through this constellation. He predicted the solar eclipse of 585 BC, using the Saros, a cycle of 18 years, 10days and 8 hours.
According to Aristotle relates in his "Politics", applied his knowledge of astronomy to finance, so having predicted what would the olive harvest, bought during the winter alloil presses in Miletus and Chios and rented to get the time collection, accumulating a vast fortune and showing that the sages and philosophers can be rich if they wish, but that his ambition is quitedifferent
