5.1              Summarize the process of natural selection.
·      why natural selection acts on the phenotype rather than the genotype of an organism
why alleles that are lethal in a homozygousindividual may be carried in a heterozygote and thus maintained in a gene pool
·      new mutations are constantly being generated in a gene pool
·      how natural selection determines thedifferential survival of groups of organisms

Slide 1:What is evolution?
Evolution is any genetic change in a population that is hereditary over various generations. Changes like weight loss or gain are not considered as evolution because they are notgenetic changes passed on to the next generation. The changes are noted in the phenotypes of the population.

Slide 2:
What is natural selection?
is one of the basic mechanisms of evolution, likemutation, migration… Natural selection produces changes genetically in a population from one generation to the other. Because of this, they can become better adapted to their environment.

Slide3:
Why does Natural Selection occur?
1. Individuals within a population are not identical.
2. Some variants are better than others. They differ in the ability to survive and reproduce.
3. Becausethey can pass on these traits to their children.

Slide 4:
The process of Natural Selection
Darwin’s process of natural selection has four components.|
1. Variation.  Organisms (withinpopulations) variation in appearance and behavior.  These variations can be body size, hair color, facial markings, voice properties, or number of offspring.  On the other hand, some traits can show little...
