The Article chosen by me come from an edition of the New YorkTimes art section,
Glyna Aderhold, 67 year old, passed a monumental bronze sculpture of a man and saw something that made her pause. The thing was the statue’s genitals, which are uncovered and ateye level to the adult viewer. Like she many others visitors and shopper alike stop at the bubble figured 12 foot tall Adam by the Colombian artist Fernando Botero located in a mall in Manhattan. Peoplewho stop there often grasp, touch, pat or rub the statue’s small but prominent penis, while someone takes a photo. Somewhere in the mall is also Adam’s partner, Eve. She also gets attention from thevisitors but not toward the physical contact. A New York gallery owner said that Botero’s works are not designed to be touched; however, the manager of the mall welcomes everybody to interact with theart work, affirming he is doing something to make their day a little bit better. Around the world and throughout history, people have rubbed statues for luck, but in this case there are somedifferences why people pose with Adam’s penis, it’s funny, it’s unusual and is also between the vulgar and the pure, and most curious of all is that not in an art gallery or a museum if not in a mall, wherethe goods are meant to be handled. People of different ages, gender, cultures and even ways of thinking give their opinion against and as expected some say it may be good for sex, as well as otherstate in a humorous or even conservatively opinion against this type of art. “In our normal lives, you really can’t go up and touch someone’s genital,” said Fernanda Bennett, the deputy director of theNassau County Museum of Art.
Adam not only offers a meeting place, but also an unmissable landmark to anyone who goes over there.
