PAYING COMPLIMENTS – QUESTION TAGS. 1.1 PAYING COMPLIMENTS. HACIENDO CUMPLIDOS.
Whenever you want to pay a compliment to someone, use: What + a/an + adjective and exclamation mark (!) at the end of the sentence What a charming girl! What a lovely lady! What a nice woman! What anelegant dress! What an interesting lecture! … You can also use: Look + adjective or look + intensifier + adjective That dress suits her very well, she looks great! That is an elegant outfit, he looks rather elegant! You’ve got a new pair of glasses! You look very smart!

   Question tags are questions in a short form. They are always at the end of thesentence. Use it to ask or to confirm one’s impressions or opinions or to agree on facts and ideas.

Karla is your girlfriend, isn’t she? Carlos hasn’t arrived yet, has he? It’s a wonderful house, isn’t it? The speech was pretty boring, wasn’t it? The students weren’t nervous, were they?
