Nestor was my father’s cousin; consequently everybody on my mother’s family assumed that he was going to be as good husband as my father was. They let appearancesfooled them and encourage my aunt to married the black sheep of the family; and alcoholic with no ambitions who until this day lives off his rich parents money. My beautiful aunt wasted his youth andintelligence besides a man who have never appreciated her and end up raising her kids in an environment where getting home at five in the morning drunk is okay and discipline and hard work are notnecessary to succeed in life ; Everything would have been better if my aunt had divorced him earlier.
This scenario was very common no more than thirty years ago, a woman with a bad husband had to bear allkinds of abuses in order to don’t destroy the family and give to her children a paternal figure; this kind of behavior harmed the whole family. Infants suffered seeing their mother disrespected and unhappy, while in their young minds the idea of disrespecting a woman was fine; this misbehavior created anger and violent adults.
