Monday

I. Desired Results:
a. Unit Understanding: Students will understand how to…
i. Recognize a ratio as a comparison of two quantities.
ii. Recognize a rate as twoquantities being compared with different units of measure
iii. Recognize a proportion as an equation that shows two equivalent ratios
iv. Recognize a percent as a ratio of a number to 100
b. UnitEssential Questions:
i. How do we mathematically connect ratios, rates, proportions and percents?
c. Daily Learning Objective
i. Students will know how to illustrate ratios in three different formsand draw a mathematical conclusion between ratios and rates
ii. Students will be able to identify fractions as ratios
iii. Students will be able to demonstrate how to find a rate given a ratio
iv.Students will be able to apply this mathematical concept to word and real life problems

II. GPS Standard(s):
a. M6A1: Students will understand the concept of ratio and use it to representquantitative relationships.

III. Introduction:
The first fifteen minutes I will give out a preview/pretest of the unit being taught; rates, ration, proportions and percents.
Teacher: Does anyone knowhow to do any of the problems on the pretest?
(Allows 3 to 5 minutes for students to answer the question)
Immediately following the pretest I will have the students pull out their daily page fortoday’s lesson about ratios and rates
(As the students pull out their daily page I am pulling up a PowerPoint or writing an example on the board such ¾.)
Teacher: Can anyone tell me about this number?Students: This number is a fraction, the 3 is the numerator and the 4 is the denominator (We have previously learned about fractions)


IV. Learning Plan
Teacher: Yes, ¾ is a fraction but ¾ canalso be identified as a ratio. A ratio is a comparison of two quantities
