Chapter 10: The Spiritual Sword

1. Since the beginning of Christianity, Church has taken power to control the people in terms of politics, education, and social behavior. It has being, (andwill be) one of the biggest influences of Western though. This means that a significant part of the individuals living in this world are influence (even if they think they’re not) by this religioninstitution. Legacy of the Christian Church also includes the origins of Western music and the foundation of schools and universities.
2. Although Christians promoted the renunciation of the body (interms of sexual usual) Jesus, the head of Christian believes, was more concerned about taking care of the poor and rich than of the “usage” of the body, in fact he didn’t advocate the rejection of thebody. In fact, ironically, years later the body of saints was venerated by Christians.
3. Christian thought was so enforced on people’s live, that nobody wanted to even take the risk of remainingas a sinner. As a consequence, Christians renounced to everything they had (houses, families, any comforts, any kind of company) to seek for the higher good of spirit and don’t go to hell. Theydidn’t stop to rethink what they were doing. They just had the sincere thought that this renunciation of luxury will assure them a place in heaven.
4. If it weren’t for the dedication of theChristians there wouldn’t be so many important religious texts to analyze and read. They devoted themselves to transcribing the scripts and contribute to the intellectual life.
5. Discrimination of womenhas existed since the birth of the terms “civilization” and “society” and Church wasn’t an exception. Only men could be priest (this stays the same in present time) and they are the only ones incharge of administrating the sacraments. It seems that this was not sufficient, considering Church took special control of women by condemning their bodies for attracting men into vice. As a consequence,...
