The incidence of car accidents in Puerto Rico is a serious issue. Car accidents are a serious hazard for most drivers, whether they are driving to and from work orchauffeuring their kids to school and sport practice. But what are the most common causes of car accidents? The most common causes of car accidents are distracted drivers, speeding anddrunk driving.
A distracted driver can cause several car accidents. The distractions are many like texting, rubbernecking or slowing down to gawk at another accident. Distractionslike that caused the most accidents. Another increasingly serious cause of driver distraction is cell phone use. Consequently driving and talking on a cell phone at the same timequadruples the risk of crashing. For this reason many cities have recently begun banning their use while driving unless a hands-free device is used.
Speeding is a multi-tiered threatbecause not only does it reduce the amount of time necessary to avoid a crash. For this reason it also increases the risk of crashing and makes the crash more severe if it does occur. Whenspeed increases from 40 mph to 60 mph, the energy released in a crash more than doubles. Simply slowing down and obeying posted speed limits can go a long way toward making the roadssafer. People in Puerto Rico love speed.
Drunk drivers are responsible for 30 percent of all crashes. Consequently most of the fatal crashes are caused by alcohol. The only way toprevent this type of accident is to not drink and drive. Whenever alcohol is involved, choose a designated driver in advance. A person should not drink at all before driving.
Caraccidents in Puerto Rico are a serious issue. If the drivers drive with responsibility the crashes can be less. I hope this year the car accidents can be reduced. We deserve safety roads.
