Introduction

The increased consumer raises the production of greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change. In this scenario, this report aims to determinate the main purpose of the carbon calculator in the freight transport activity, provide the target group for each calculator and state how some organizations intend to propose alternative solution to increase a sustainabletransport. I will compare each of the carbon calculators I have chosen and give a final opinion.

I. Main purpose of the carbon calculator tools.

The Carbon calculator it is a tool to calculate the carbon footprint, using the carbon calculator we could measure the impact on the environment and determine the amount of carbon dioxide it is produced as a direct result from any activity, thesetools are essential for the carbon reduction. Once the size of a carbon footprint is known, a strategy can be devised to reduce it.
Carbon calculators assess the impact on climate change and the effect of human activities on the environment. The amount of climate change gases associated with the manufacture of materials and the operation of construction assets are used to estimate a total Carbonfootprint. The result of this calculation is an estimated over a period of a year and the emission figure is shown in tons of CO2 that is an activity Carbon Footprint. The calculator will generally calculate in mass units of CO2 per year. Now the carbon calculators have different formulas that are used for these calculations. Some of the carbon calculators chosen will also give you different tips tohelp us to understand the amount of damage a product or service cause to the environment and try to reduce it.

II. Target market of the chosen carbon calculator
 
As I said before, everything we do in our lives can be harmful to the environment and one of the primary sources of these gases is transportation. That´s why there are plenty of sites that anyone as an individual or businesscould reach to estimate the carbon dioxide emission over a period of time, this will allow to examine the impact these activity have, helping us to built a more sustainable supply chain.
In the case of the freight transport, there are many organizations that offer the calculation based on a simple formula which is going to give us the amount of carbon dioxide emitted per year, this organizationwill give us as well alternative transportation in order reducing the emission.
I have chosen four of these organizations that allow customers to identify the carbon emissions, they calculate different modes of freight transport so I will try to give some information about each one:
1) CSX, It’s a leading supplier of rail-based freight transportation in North America. This company moves tons offreights by rail. Its target market it is any shipment company that wants to move any product, from agricultural products to building materials using rail shipping.
2) AAR, the Association of American Railroads, promote the reduction of the green house by using rail transport within America. Its target market will be as well any company or logistic operator that wants to transport a commodity withinAmerica.
3) DPD, It’s an international parcel delivery company which offers to its clients road transport to their goods within Europe. Its target market will be any client who requires a national or as international transport service by road, ranging from a multitude of parcel and express delivery services to individual customer solutions.
4) Eco Transit, This carbon calculator is aim toprovide any company, logistic provider or individual who requires the environmental impact in terms of direct energy consumption and emissions during the operation of vehicles during the transport of products. Thereby it is possible to determine the energy consumption, CO2 and exhaust emissions transported by rail, road, ship and aircraft in any combination.
